Hefty 一词由名词 heft （重量）+形容词后缀 -y 构成，1866年起开始在英语里用来形容人或物体“大而重的”，强调一眼就可以看出或者用手握住便可以感觉到的，比如：

  The usher's brothers were both hefty men in their forties.
